CENTRAL TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER

Case Management

Central Texas Medical Center, also known as CTMC, is a multiservice hospital in the middle of the San Marcos Texas community. CTMC’s goals are to provide steward like workmanship and quality service to those within the community who are in need. Also providing inclusivity; and a positive, compassionate and spiritual experience while maintaining high ethical standards. Case Management is a team of highly skilled registered nurses and non-clinical health professionals who contribute to the achievement of the hospital. Case Management’s objectives are to assure that each patient receives adequate post-hospital care; and assure that patients aren’t staying past their expected length of stay (which can be financially burdensome to both the patient and hospital); etc. As the Case Management intern, I've been given the opportunity to assist the case managers with tracking avoidable days, as well as collecting and monitoring patient records. I've gained more experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and the Citrix Cerner database. There are 6 Registered Nurses on the Case Management team and I shadow someone different daily. I also attend daily rounds in which the physical therapist(s), patient care navigator(s), case managers, floor nurses, dietician(s), and physicians meet to discuss the progression, delays, discharge dates, insurance approvals/denials, and follow up procedures for each patient in the hospital. I've acquired a new found knowledge regarding insurance politics, companies and their respective policies.
